Friends!! Does this seem like the longest week ever to anyone else? No? Just me huh? This rainy day we’re having today probably isn’t helping either.

Regardless of how fast or slow it’s going,  I hope everyone’s week is going swell!

A new baby has arrived in my life (Welcome my newest niece Tinley!) and you know what that means for you guys, right?! A lovely lactation recipe for nursing moms! LOL 🙂

Every time one of my friends has a baby I get some lactation recipe requests and I happily oblige! What are friends for?!

Let’s start with some knowledge. What is a galactagogue?  A galactagogue is a food that promotes lactation in nursing mothers. As a former nursing mom and a soon-to-be-again nursing mom, I love me some galactagogues, and I like to say that word. WORD OF THE DAY!

Foods rich in IRON, PROTEIN, and CALCIUM make wonderful companions for nursing moms!
Side Note: Some leafy greens and/or beans may make baby gassy, so be on the lookout! If baby seems uncomfortable after you eat certain types of foods, back off of them.

Best Foods For Nursing Mothers

  1. Oatmeal
  2. Spinach (or any leafy green)
  3. Hummus
  4. Carrots
  5. Eggs
  6. Cheese
  7. Nuts & Seeds
  8. Berries
  9. Beans
  10. Lactation muffins or cookies!!!

So what gives a muffin or cookie the label “lactation”?
With any recipe, I make sure to include oatmeal, brewer’s yeast, flax or hemp seed, and berries. Don’t worry, these ingredients combined make a yummy product!
